G is for emergency

Quick note: for some unknown reasons, the email address I have used for three years hasn’t worked since 8:00.
If you sent anything to this address today, please send your message again to my emergency Gmail address, michelv@youknowwhichdomainname. Sorry for the inconvenience.

My usual email address is now active again.

In other news, I changed the permalinks structure on this blog just to get monthly archive links working. Fear not the breakage, old permalinks still work.
There’s still this language cookie problem, it shall get fixed once and for all once I redesign and rewrite a ton of stuff, soon.

for blog in {blog}: do blog

How does one spend each day blogging about blogging?
Are there newspaper dedicated to other newspapers’ attics? “Exclusive, you read it here first: the New York Post switches to new ink producer!”, is that interesting to anyone?

not dead enough yet

DJ fired for celebrating Reagan’s death: seems like Reagan’s not dead enough, one can’t talk about its policies in the Middle East and South America yet. Be done dying already, mister President.

lullabies

A search for the name of the band who made a cover of “Back In USSR”, that I only had as a ghost song on some parisian tv show’s soundtrack (Paris Dernière), yielded not only the band’s name (Baba Yaga) but also this gem: Lullabies from the Axis of Evil.

Lullabies from the Axis of Evil is a collection of peaceful songs from women in Iran, North Korea, Cuba, and other countries that we only hear from in negative ways nowadays.
These women’s voices are a soothing antidote to negativity, a glimpse of hope from the devastated lands. Listen to the mp3 samples, close your eyes, let those lullabies fly.

Post-synchro 2

geek dating tips

You’re sitting at this coffee table with your laptop, when suddenly you notice this nice woman accross the room, apparently chatting via IM or IRC on her laptop. You want to just get up and start having a conversation with her, but you’re the shy geek type. What can you do?
Leverage your geekdom! Whip up a script to sniff the WiFi network for her IM screenname or IRC nickname, then just instant-message/query her! Somehow, she’ll be surprised and amazed and accept a date with you.

Sounds impossible or just too geeky to be real?
It is not. Kevin Burton often gets first dates that way at his local Wi-Fi-enabled café, and other like-minded geeks just crack the code to romance aswell.

too sexy for my chainmail

I’m too sexy for my chainmail, so sexy it hurts.

the last Straw

Straw 0.23 is out. Since April. And as a Straw user I did not know this.

Why should I have been notified of a new version? I syndicate Straw’s news feed with Straw itself…
That’s right, Straw’s news feed didn’t get updated in April when 0.23 was out. It’s an aggregator, and its project’s news feed is out of date, how novel.

tunedriving

AirPort Express allows you to “enjoy your iTunes music library in virtually any room of your house”, using WiFi. (via PapaScott)

Cool functionality, but what if somebody drives by and finds a way to fetch all the tunes you’re playing? Could the music lobby sue you for sharing music?
Will tunedriving become the next wardriving?

I’m not a * but I play one on TV.
